Hurricane Helene left communities across Western North Carolina with recovery and rebuilding needs that will continue for years.
Local organizations have been working tirelessly to help their communities recover. Many, however, have lacked a shared way to reach volunteers - and people eager to help have had no single place to find opportunities across the region.
Volunteer WNC was created in response to requests from regional recovery partners as a centralized platform dedicated to long-term recovery and rebuilding.
Two ways to get involved.
If you are a volunteer
Explore recovery and rebuilding opportunities across Western North Carolina. Serve close to home, travel to another community, volunteer with a group, or contribute professional skills.
If you are an organization
Qualifying recovery partners can post opportunities, reach more volunteers, manage signups, and receive onboarding and platform support at no cost.

Volunteer WNC supports both sides of the connection: people ready to serve and organizations ready to put that help to work.

Volunteer opportunities may be available for WNC residents, out-of-region volunteers, businesses, faith communities, skilled volunteers, and other groups.
Participating partners may include:
- Long-Term Recovery Groups and recovery coalitions
- Nonprofit organizations
- Local governments
- Faith-based and community organizations
- Mutual-aid groups serving impacted communities

Volunteer WNC is made possible through funding from the American Red Cross and is managed by United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.
Community recovery partners remain at the center of the work, bringing local knowledge and the volunteer opportunities that move recovery forward.

Volunteer WNC helps organizations recruit volunteers. It does not directly match individuals or households with volunteers for personal rebuilding projects.
